Course Description:

Implications of DNA evidence and genetics are present in all aspects of society. The material in this course will provide an introduction to some fundamental concepts of DNA, genetics, and genomic analysis that connect to forensics, medicine, and relationships between and among different species. While this course is designed for students with minimal scientific backgrounds, it will also include material and exercises of interest to those with a stronger background in science. Potential topics for investigation include ancestry of human populations (including reproductive interactions between archaic and modern humans), understanding DNA profiling, genetically-modified crops, and genetically-inherited diseases.
