Course Description:

What is science? Is it important for elected politicians to understand basic science? Is it important for the voting public to understand the health of the environment, geologic risk factors, the impact of non-renewable hydrocarbon energy sources on the climate of the earth, and the impact of exponential population growth? In this course we will introduce, research, and debate a very wide range of critical anthropogenic issues, potential geologic events and the importance of having a scientifically literate public. During the semester we will become engaged with science- and technology-based programming organized by Syracuse University, Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) and the Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY) -- partnerships that are designed to raise the tide for all Central New York citizens.
