Course Description:

The use of Japanese ideograms in Soviet montage theory, the connection of oral tradition of myth to modern graphic novels and cinema, juxtaposition of movement and light with architecture, the nexus of political/gender activism and visual art, antique noisemaking machines scored in modern music. This seminar explores a wide variety of intra-disciplinary collisions and also connects students to local artists and cultural institutions. The seminar will include visits to Artrage Gallery and Everson Museum, and discussion with local poets, artists, curators, instrument makers, etc.
