Have you ever wanted to visit artists’ studios and see how they make art? Syracuse and Central New York has a diverse community of artists working in many mediums and some are nationally and internationally known. This course will examine artists’ inspirations and what compelled them to create in their chosen mediums while introducing you to the diverse local art scene. We will visit artists' studios, local galleries and museums. The course introduces and examines the art of local artists, art institutions and public art in Central New York. This course will explore the artists’ psyche, their processes for making art, their practices and their relationship to society and the environment. The course is very mindful about including women artists, and artists of color and different ethnicities. The class will have an art tour on the Syracuse University campus and in downtown Syracuse. Other trips will include visits to artists’ studios, art spaces, Everson museum and galleries.
