HNR Seminar (210,220,230)
Class #: 12374 Section: M001 # Credits: 1
What would your day look like if you were 10 percent happier? This seminar invites you to explore whether mindfulness can make your daily college experience less stressful and more rewarding – especially if you aren’t sure exactly what you want to gain from college or what you want to do afterward. The seminar is designed for curious skeptics of mindfulness as well as for those who enjoy meditation, journaling, yoga, or other contemplative practices. We will explore the hype and the promise of mindfulness. Seminar participants will learn about the theories behind contemplative practices and experiment with a variety of techniques to foster mindfulness. And we will compare these techniques to other practices that promote well-being, like exercise. Seminar participants will keep a journal to track their experiences and gauge the impact of contemplative practices on their daily lives. Prior experience with contemplative practices is welcome but not necessary.
